Did you attend any symphonic orchestra concert before? Are you amazed by the various types of musical instruments being used and not even knowing some?

If you did go to a concert hall for a symphonic orchestra session before, you will see all the musicians sit in an organized arrangement that stretched across the stage. They will be playing different types of musical instrument which may includes piano, kettle drums and many others.

The actual number of musical instruments used in a symphonic orchestra may varies, but it will exceed the count of hundred. These instruments are generally divided into four main families, namely, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion.

The strings family forms the main basis of the orchestra and the musical instrument being used are the violin, viola, cellos and double basses. All these instruments are structurally similar, but varying in size. The pitch of each group is inversely related to size, and hence the squeakiest note/noise is produced by the violin.

For the woodwind family, you will see the use of clarinet, flute, piccolo, oboe, and bassoon. Generally there will be four set of musical instruments for each type with the exception of the piccolo, which will be played only by one of the orchestra member

As for the brass section of a symphonic orchestra, they will be the French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba. These are usually made from brass, but may also be made from other metal. The distinguishing feature is a cup-shaped mouthpiece.

Finally, the percussion section, which has the largest variety of instruments, but in an orchestra they will have the smallest number of players. The musical instruments used are the timpani, snare drum, bass drum, triangle, cymbals, chimes, xylophone, celesta, tam-tam, and the triangle. These are the loudest instruments in an orchestra and are generally positioned behind all other orchestra members because of the noise levels that each instrument can produce.

Where music event is concerned, it is almost impossible to miss out on the yearly American Idol contest. David Cook was crowned the winner of this season American Idol contest, defeating David Archuleta in the final.

And as usual like the past few seasons, there are almost non-stop gossips and rumors during the entire nineteen weeks contest. We heard about the rumor of wildcard tours when some of the more talented idols are being eliminated in the earlier rounds; we heard about the talk of revamping the series due to poor audience ratings; and of course not forgetting the voting system that is being severely criticized.

The aftermath of the contest, we read about David Cook dating former contestant Kimberly Caldwell from the season 2 series; followed by the sad new of Luke Menard, contestant in this season, being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and the most recent new, the producers of American Idol reportedly being sued by the American Federation of Musicians for violating a bargaining agreement by underpaying musicians.

So, another eventful season ended.

Looking back at this season contest, some felt that it is the best season ever and of course, there are always people who disagreed with the view. The winner, David Cook, has a good voice and is very talented. He is a seasoned performer and with strong and professional stage performance, should go on and score well with his new album.

As for David Archuleta, the runner up, all is not lost for him. He is young, only 17, yet sings exceptionally well. And with his great potential and strong appeal to young fans, many expect him to be successful in the music industry as well.

For the rest of the contestants that are eliminated earlier, will they be able to make headlines and do well in the extremely competitive music industry? It really depends on their determination, luck and hard work. While there are contestants that managed to crave out a successful career after their American Idol dreams ended, most of the others faded off slowly. So, will we see the last of talented idol, people like Carly Smithson, Asia’h Epperson and Michael Johns?

Nobody knows. Only times can tell.
