Buying guitar is not an easy task like picking guitar songs, especially if you are not yet a well-trained player. There are many different types of guitars and they can easily run into hundreds of different shapes, sizes, brands and prices. So, do you know what to look out for when you want to buy a classical guitar?

1. Classical guitars has many different sizes and shape, so you should sit and hold it and make sure that are comfortable with it.

2. Play every note on every string and listen for any fret that don’t play properly. They will give a rattling sound and if that occurs, try out another guitar. Every string should play cleanly on every single fret.

3. Check how much pressure is needed to play notes and chords. You should play bar chords all the way down the frets and if it is too hard to press the strings in order to make a clear chord, then that guitar might not be of good quality.

4. Play harmonics. Harmonics is the technique of plucking the note with your right hand and only lightly touching the string with your left hand.

5. Check and test the tuning pegs. Are they clean and sharp? Wind and unwind them and watch out if the tuning motion is smooth.

6. Tap on the front of the guitar (The sound board) in different spots. Is the echoing sound good?

7. Check the entire guitar. Look carefully from front to back and top to bottom for any cracks, glue exposed around the bridge, and whether the frets are firmly installed into the fret board? Look inside the guitar sound hole and make sure that the wooden braces in there are straight and well placed.

Using the above guidelines when you are purchasing a classical guitar will help to ensure that you are comfortable with the guitar; you would have like the look of the guitar, the sound produce by the guitar and the feel when you hold the guitar.

There are basically two different categories of guitars: Acoustic guitar and electric guitar.

Acoustic Guitars are hollow-bodied guitars that are amplified by design. Sometimes, people will add electronics component to it so as to send the acoustic signal to an amplifier. The difference between an acoustic and an electric guitar is that when playing an acoustic guitar, it can produce the same basic sound, with or without amplifying the signal whereas an electric guitar sounds thin and twangy unless the signal is amplified.

Acoustic Guitars

Classical guitars are the most popular among the different types. The strings of the classical guitars are made from nylon and they are commonly used to play classical music.

There is also the steel-top guitars. It is similar to the classical guitar but are constructed to be more resilient. Their bodies are significantly larger than the classical guitars and they produce a warmer tone than the classical guitar.

The 12-String guitar has 12 strings which is very different from other guitar which comes with 6-string. Each string on the 12-String guitar is accompanied by another string with the same note but is usually tuned in a higher octave and this produces a semi-chorus effect which is very pleasant to the ear.

Resonator guitar which are generally used when playing the blues and the archtop guitar that has the f-hole design and commonly used by Jazz players.

Lastly, there is the acoustic bass guitars. These guitars are usually 4-stringed guitars but there are acoustic bass guitars which have 5 or 6 strings.

Electric Guitar

Electric guitars are usually connected to electric amplifiers and they make use of electronic pick-ups to amplify the vibrations of the guitar strings. They have a solid or semi-solid body and the body are not used for sound resonance and therefore there will be very little or no sound when these guitars are played without an amplifier.

Electric guitars usually have control knobs for adjusting the volume or tone of the guitar. There are also pick-up selectors in electric guitars which are use for gather and produce different tones from the guitar.

Some electric guitars may comes with whammy bars which are attached to the guitar to shift notes without changing the finger positions on the fret board. The purpose of whammy bars is to produce “crying” guitar sounds and they are very useful when performing rock and roll songs.
